Blowerdoor If a building or a building section is subjected to an air tightness test, an airtight panel is mounted on an adjustable frame which is built-in in a window or outside door of the building section of measurement. A mounted rubber gasket on an aluminum profile is fixed to a door frame or a window frame. This way the outdoor air cannot enter the building section uncontrollably in which the measurement takes place. A speed controlled fan is integrated into the panel and produces a pressurization or depressurization. The pressurization as well as the depressurization is needed for the calculation of the required air change rate .

Considering the already obtained data of the building, such as the included air volume of the measured rooms, the rate of the air exchange per hour with 50 Pa [Pascal] (n50-value) and the stream of air volume per m² will be determined.

By using the blower-door measurement together with an infrared camera or a fog machine, all the building’s air-leakiness can be detected and a record could be kept. With this method all defects
can be repaired.

By using the air speed meter the air-flow can be measured in leaky areas.


Blowerdoor The blower door measurement gives you information about the leak-tightness or leakage of the building section which has to be inspected.

The process of the pressure differential measurement is regulated by EN 13829 in today’s relevant version and with an included measurement report as well as the exact report of eventual defects (images, report)

The metering must be realized by a certified specialist, authorized expert or a construction physicist



The report of the blower-door measurement

In order to be able to evaluate a measurement the following data has to be stated in a test report:

- testing method A or B
- a link to the standards and variations of any kind
- device under test:
- description of the measured section of the building
- net base and the inside volume
- description of the calculation
- status of all the openings
- description of the vents which are temporarily sealed
- kind of heating system, ventilation facility, cooling system
- the employed gadgets and the testing method
- data of the metering
- natural pressure differential
- inside as well as outside temperature
- wind speed as well as the air pressure
- table of the generated pressure differential and the volume flows
- graph of the leakage
- factor of the flow, flow index, factor of the leakage, confidence level
- air exchange rate n50 at 50Pa
- derived units to corresponding national applicable rules or agreements
- time of the inspection
- name of the inspector
